Becker and Gutierrez take the spoils in thrilling qualifier series finals.

ERZINCAN, Turkey, Friday 7 June: Day two of the qualifying series got under way with victories for Mexico’s Gutierrez and Germany’s Ulrich Becker. The improvements made on the 3.3 km Ergan Dagi course have made it faster and more technical for the riders who showed up in force representing 19 nationalities. Today was the first chance for the riders to race head to head for a starting spot in the Championship Tour on the weekend.

Open luge was up first and while Ulrich Becker didn’t have the fastest of starts, the German worked his way through the field to grab victory ahead of a pair of Brits with Phil Spencer taking 2nd and Ian Martland in 3rd.

The last race of the day was the open stand up qualifying series final. Dexter Manning, Oscar Gutierrez (MEX), Hussain Al-Nasrallah(NOR) and Micaiah Harness (USA) were ready to do battle on the gruelling track at Ergan Dagi. After a tight race the Mexican ended up victorious ahead of Canadian Dexter Manning with Hussain Al-Nasrallah from Norway rounding out the podium in 3rd place. 4th in qualifying series final belonged to Micaiah Harness from the USA.

With the first ever WDSC qualifying series in the books, it’s time to look ahead to a weekend of epic battles, dramatic overtakes and all-round thrilling racing at round 1 of the World Downhill Skateboarding Championship Erzincan.
