ONGOING TALKS FOR A RETURN TO DOWNHILL SKATEBOARDING ACTION IN 2021

LONDON, Monday, 8 February: The International Downhill Federation (IDF), the world governing body, and World Downhill Skateboarding Championship promoter Race Marketing & Management (RMM) are holding ongoing talks about the variables and possibilities of a running an international competition this year.

Despite the major disruption to international sporting events around the world due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions that come with it, both parties are exploring all possibilities in line with in-country and international travel protocols for a limited venue World Downhill Skateboarding Championship in 2021.

RMM is in preliminary talks with several potential event organisers who have expressed their interest and fully acknowledge the fluidity of the present situation. “We must press on and plan now despite the current hurdles. To sit back and wait until the all clear is given means further delays,” said Selim Kemahli, RMM managing director. “There is a great deal of interest and the people I am talking to are very pragmatic about the present situation. If there is a safe, logistical and practical way to stage a championship this year then I am sure we will be in a position to do so.”
