TZOUGANAKIS WINS IN OPEN STAND UP
*Mahdzan cruises to victory in Luge
*Peters wins shootout against Hanegraef
ERZiNCAN, (Turkey), Saturday, 14 October: France’s Alexandros Tzouganakis took a surprise win in today’s Open Stand Up final to upset the form book, with the defending world champion and fastest man in qualifying, Spain’s Diego Poncelet, winning a post-race protest and elevated to third after Czech rider Vašek Čvančara was disqualified.
Tzouganakis inherited first place when the early race leader Harry Clarke crashed out moments before Poncelet followed him into the hay bales after a coming together with Čvančara who was trying to pass the Spanish rider on the inside of the turn, sending him into the Australian Clarke, both riders recovering to finish in third and fourth but elevated a place after Čvančara’s disqualification from second place for impeding a rider, with Lisa Peters winning the shootout against Jasmijn Hanegraef in Women’s Stand Up.
In Luge there was a comfortable win for Malaysia’s defending champion Abdil Mahdzan who was fastest in qualifying, leading from the start to finish ahead of Polish rider Arkadiusz Kowalski and Peru’s Luis Mogrovejo, with Britain’s Andrew Speight in fourth ahead of Argentina’s Daniel Blanco.
