Second stop of the 2025 WDSC Season Completed in Erzincan

Round 2 of the World Downhill Skateboarding Championship took place under glorious skies high atop the mountain of Ergan Dağı in Erzincan, Türkiye. This marked the third visit to the ferocious 3 km track—often dubbed the toughest in the world—and it did not disappoint, pushing Standup, Luge, and, for the first time, Inline disciplines to their limits.

Inline skating made its WDSC debut, adding a new dynamic to the event. The final featured Andreu Greses Rochina (ESP), Ioannis Pyrovolou (GRE), Renato Pennuti (ITA), and Carlos Quiroga (COL). In a fiercely contested race, Pennuti took an early lead and began pulling away from the pack before a fall took him out of contention. The reigning world champion ultimately finished fourth. This opened the door for Quiroga, who seized the opportunity and claimed victory, followed by Greses Rochina in second and Pyrovolou rounding out the podium in third.

The Open Luge category saw the return of Abdil Mahdzan (MYS), who had missed the 2024 race following a dramatic crash. The two-time WDSC champion and winner of Round 1 in Austria was back in peak form in Erzincan, dominating the final and holding off a strong challenge from Ulrich Becker (GER), who had shown impressive pace all weekend to secure second place. 2024 WDSC Champion Kolby Parks (CAN) returned to the podium in third, narrowly edging out Phil Spencer (GBR), who made his season debut with a solid fourth-place finish.

As always, the Open Standup division delivered high drama and intensity. After two fierce semi-finals, Adrien Paynel (FRA), Owen Fox (USA), Andreas Bouclier (FRA), and Harry Clarke (AUS) lined up for a thrilling final showdown. Bouclier, last year’s winner in Erzincan, was the first to fall, ending his hopes early. Fox then found a burst of speed through Turn 5, overtaking Clarke to move into second behind Paynel. Turn 6—renowned for its difficulty—claimed Clarke next, leaving only Paynel and Fox to battle it out.

The Round 1 winner and fastest qualifier, Paynel, had the race under control. Fox pushed hard in pursuit but couldn’t get close enough to attempt a pass. He finished second, marking his third consecutive WDSC podium dating back to Roan Mountain in 2024. Clarke recovered to claim the final spot on the podium, but once again, the weekend belonged to Adrien Paynel—winner of both qualifying and the race—making it two out of two in 2025 and cementing his position as the clear championship leader.

The tour now takes a short break before returning from July 4th–6th, when the WDSC visits the Isle of Man for the first time.
