RIDERS SPEAK OUT IN SUPPORT OF WDSC
Friday, 21 July: In the aftermath of a hugely disappointing, frustrating, and enforced early ending to last weekend’s season-opener in Italy, riders have spoken out in support of the WDSC and the decision by the WGSF, the sport’s governing federation, to abandon the event on the Sunday due to ongoing concerns over riders’ safety.
Harry Clarke: “Although the outcome of the weekend was disappointing, I believe the decision to no longer continue was the right one. The eerie feeling felt by a few was one that has previously preluded disaster.
“Safety remains a number one priority for myself and my fellow riders and on this day, we are thankful to be racing under an organisation that shares these views.”
Alexandros Tzouganakis: “I wanted to let you know that the top riders are more than motivated to continue the adventure with you. We all want the same thing, please keep doing what you can do with us, we will be present.
“We never had somebody that can invest that much for our sport, I’m happy about it, I know those things are possible, you just have to think how to manage with the organisation a bit more, and it will be perfect. Thank you, grazie mille, merci beaucoup!”
Anna Pixner: “I hope everything calmed down a little bit, and I want to thank you guys anyways for all the effort and energy you are putting into this. I think the WDSC is doing a great job.
Diego Poncelet: “I hope you’re good and despite all this chaos it was good seeing you in Italy. I want to reiterate that we stand behind WDSC and I believe the public backlash can be recovered with a well-run event by yourselves like Turkey.”
