Poncelet and Ilic set the pace for opening round of WDSC in Turkiye

ERZINCAN, Turkey, Saturday 8 June: Reigning world champion Diego Poncelet of Spain edged out Adrien Paynel of France (2nd) and Gregoire Schwab of Switzerland (3rd) with a time of 2.21.75 to lay claim to stand up category qualifying on day three. However with only three seconds separating the top 4 riders, tomorrow’s race is sure to be a hotly contested battle.

In the open street luge, the 2022 Kozakov winner, Andrej Ilic finished the day on top with a time of 2.22.38 to set up tomorrow’s contest as David Frega and Ulrich Becker followed close behind with only a second between them.

With the withdrawal of Abdil Mahdzan from the race following yesterday’s accident, the street luge race is wide open.
