WORLD DOWNHILL SKATEBOARDING CHAMPIONSHIP RETURNS TO ISLE OF MAN WITH ICONIC MOUNTAIN ROAD COURSE

International field of competitors from 17 nations set to tackle new course from Joey’s Corner to Ramsey, 4–5 July 2026

The World Downhill Skateboarding Championship returns to the Isle of Man this summer with its most ambitious course yet — the iconic Mountain Road, with racing running from Joey’s Corner, just below Guthrie’s Memorial, down to Barrule Park below the Ramsey Hairpin.

An international field representing 17 countries — including France, Malaysia, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom — will compete across two disciplines: downhill skateboarding and street luge. The Isle of Man is represented by local riders Jack Killey and Juan Callister.

Race organiser Selim Kemahli said: “Last year’s response from the public exceeded all expectations and showed us how much enthusiasm there is on the Isle of Man for world-class downhill racing. To now bring the sport onto the iconic Mountain Course is something truly special for our athletes and our fans. We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike for what promises to be an unforgettable weekend of racing.”

Two disciplines, extraordinary speeds

Downhill skateboarders descend on specially designed boards, controlling speed by sliding sideways to scrub momentum and using body position to create aerodynamic drag — with no brakes. Street luge competitors lie feet-first on a low-slung board just inches from the road surface, reaching even higher speeds in a fully aerodynamic position.

Spectators can expect dramatic action at the Gooseneck, one of the fastest and most technical sections on the course, and at the Ramsey Hairpin — where riders must aggressively manage their speed in a corner that could decide the outcome just before the finish line. Camera drones will follow athletes throughout, relaying footage to a big screen in Ramsey and to worldwide broadcast.

Race Village and festival programme

New for 2026 is a Race Village opposite Ramsey Bus Station, open Friday 3 July from 4:00pm, and from noon on Saturday and Sunday. It will feature a big-screen live feed, local food and drink vendors, a beer tent, a children’s skateboard area, a dedicated media hub, and rider T-shirt signings.

Championship prizes will be presented by Mrs Maltby MHK at the Race Village on Sunday 5 July at approximately 5:00pm.
