ECHEGARAY BREAKS OWN RECORD IN LUGE TO QUALIFY QUICKEST

15 July, 2022, KOZAKOV (Czech Republic): Spain’s Mikel Echegaray Diez pushed himself to the limits to beat the track record he set back in 2015 and top the time sheets in qualifying in Luge. “To break the record, my own record, was a big goal for me this year,” he said. “I think it was back in 2015. My first run was not so good, 2:16 something but then I pulled out a 2:15.52 and I got it. Maybe I can improve or crash. But this was the goal. So super happy, as for the knockout and the race, let’s play.”

Echegaray was the fastest of all on each of his three runs, beating the record of 2:15.92s on his second attempt with an impressive 2:15.52.

Malaysia’s Abdil Mahdzan posted the second fastest time with 2:16.10 set on his final run, Czech rider Andrej Ilij third quickest with 2:18.15.
