MAHDZAN COMPLETES PERFECT WEEKEND TO CLINCH LUGE WORLD TITLE

ERZiNCAN, (Turkey), Monday, 16 October: Abdil Mahdzan rubber stamped his superiority over his rivals with another dominant display in Sunday’s qualifying and finals to complete a perfect weekend on the demanding 3.2km Ergan Dagi course in Erzincan to win the 2023 WDSC Luge World Championship.

The Malay rider once again topped the time sheets in all qualifying sessions, his best of 2:21.34 over six seconds quicker than Arkadiusz Kowalski in P2, with David Frega in third spot with 2:28.98.

Mahdzan eased through his semi-final ahead of Andrew Speight, with Arkadiusz Kowalski and Daniel Blanco finishing first and second in their semi to make the final.

Another perfect start saw Mahdzan take immediate control of the final and race unchallenged throughout, with Andrew Speight moving up into second spot after Daniel Blanco crashed heavily but was unhurt and continued to finish in third ahead of Saturday’s runner-up Arkadiusz Kowalski.

His second win and a maximum 200 points from the weekend securing Mahdzan the title, with Kowalski sealing the runners-up slot and Speight completing the championship podium – the pair equal on 141 points.
