PETERS CLINCHES TITLE IN THRILLING RACE 2

ERZiNCAN, (Turkey), Monday, 16 October: In Women’s Stand Up, the Netherland’s Lisa Peters completed the double over her Belgian rival Jasmijn Hanegraef in a thrilling second race to seal her first WDSC title.

In their second qualifying duel, Peters turned the tables on Hanegraef with both riders improving on their times of Saturday, Peters posting 2:33.97 to Hanegraef’s 2:40.82 to set up the prospect of a close race with the world title on the line – and they delivered a great spectacle and showed exceptional skills and techniques.

Peters powered off the start to open an impressive early lead on the 3.2km, 10 turn Ergan Dagi course, but by turn six Hanegraef had closed the gaps considerably.

With both riders using different techniques in the turns to control their speeds the gap between them opened and closed, and coming into the long straight in the closing stages Hanegraef was drafting, closing and up onto Peters’ wheels and looking to make the pass on the left when contact was made and she [Hanegraef] went down, Peters going on to take her second win and a maximum 200 points from the weekend to seal the title.
