PONCELET DOMINATES STAND UP TO TAKE WIN

11 July, 2022, MONTICIANO (Italy): Diego Poncelet rounded off a perfect weekend in Italy to take a dominant victory in Stand Up.

The Spanish rider was in a league of his own, backed his P1 in Saturday’s qualifying and dominated on Sunday, winning each of his heats and the stand out rider against a strong line up in the final to take a well-deserved victory. “Incredible. Both the race and how I feel right now, the adrenalin is extreme,” said Poncelet. “It was an amazing race with Oscar, Yanis and Harry. It was super close, battling all the way and I am super proud to have won all five races. Next is Kozakov and that will be very difficult but I will try my best and take it one race at a time.”

Australia’s Harry Clarke, who qualified in second behind Poncelet, eased his way to the final with two wins and two second places in the lower half of the draw, but had to settle for second spot in the final.

Escoin Oscar Rodriguez went P1 in his first three rounds, finishing second to the eventual winner in the semis, and going on to take the third spot on the podium in the final ahead of Yanis Markarian.
