World Downhill Skateboarding Championships Open with Strong Start in El Salvador

Tamanique GP, El Salvador

Today marked the first day of action at the Tamanique GP in El Salvador, where we have welcomed 117 athletes from 17 nations to this spectacular location and its exciting 2.2-kilometre downhill course.

The event brings together the Qualifying Series on Days One and Two, followed by the highly anticipated Championship Tour, which will take place on Sunday.

The Qualifying Series is open to all athletes who wish to register in one of the two available categories:

  • QS Open Skate
  • QS Open Luge

The total number of participants registered to compete in the Qualifying Series here in El Salvador is 75.

Today, athletes raced individually in the qualifying series time trial, with the riders seeded into tomorrow’s Qualifying Series race. This next stage features elimination heats of four athletes per heat. At the end of the QS, the top placed athletes overall will secure a coveted spot in the Championship Tour.

The Qualifying Series prize-giving ceremony will take place on Saturday at 17:00 in the Athlete Village.

The Championship Tour begins on Saturday afternoon with the time trials for Sunday’s race, featuring 60 top athletes divided into their respective disciplines.

Sunday’s CT race will include six divisions:

  • CT Open Skate
  • CT Women’s Skate
  • CT Open Luge
  • CT Open Inline
  • CT Women’s Inline

Riders will battle through a series of elimination rounds until we reach the final four in each division, who will race for the podium positions.

In addition to crowning the Tamanique GP event winners, Sunday will also determine the 2025 World Champions in:

  • Open Skate
  • Open Luge
  • Open Inline

Adrien Paynel (France) leads the race for the 2025 Open Skate title, while Abdil Mahdzan (Malaysia) sits in first place in Open Luge.

The action continues tomorrow as the world’s best downhill athletes go all-in here in El Salvador.
